Basics As Social Media Influencer

Three years ago, I shared on this blog on how to successfully work with brands as a blogger and how I started earning from doing what I considered a hobby.

The steps in getting started are pretty simple: create audience first and then focus on content that is worth sharing. With this, you can established your online presence and can eventually get brand collaboration and sponsored post opportunities and get paid.

Fast forward to date, I am still receiving paid opportunities but now has a new way of spreading information thru my personal social media accounts. Surprisingly, some brands doesn’t require much of a blog post or detailed product review but a facebook and Instagram (or tiktok!) post for organic reached can suffice.

This new way is called influencer marketing. This is a form of marketing which focuses on key individuals to their target markets. It is a marketing strategy to spread information thru branded content which actually sounds more of personal recommendation to family and friends.

So, along with the usual celebrity appearance on a TV commercial and billboard ads, the spread of information was also taken over by a familiar face and trusted person on your friend list or accounts that you follow! This is a brilliant, and fast-paced way to influence the ‘buying-decision’ compared to traditional media outlets.

It is completely a new way of connecting directly to consumers through influencer partnership to help promote products and services on a more relatable approach. Also, tagging brands in a post becomes an easy way to go directly to the source of the product.

Admittedly, I do not have large following on my personal accounts but I genuinely share my excitement, feedbacks and product recommendation which I personally tried and tested. It is NOT only about nice photos and products sponsorship, but rather to be a go-to person for recommendations and honest reviews.

The lack of diversity in a 3+ toddler’s diet 

Based on a global project collaboration between Nestle Research Center and the Philippines’ Food and Nutrition Research Institute, the typical diet of a Filipino toddler has inadequate intakes for many nutrients needed to support their growth and development. 

“Their diet includes a lot of carbohydrates in the form of rice and sweets and less of proteins and fats as seen in low intake of milk, fruits and vegetables and other iron sources. Thus, there is an imbalance of important macronutrients and micronutrients,” said Dr. Edward Santos. These nutrients are important to support physical and cognitive growth and development as well as normal immune function during 3+ toddlerhood. While we all have our favorite homemade food, Dr. Santos reminded parents that they play a key role in shaping their +3 toddlers’ diet and they have to be mindful of the food they introduce at home. 

The Science of Picky Eating 

There are many reasons why kids shun their food but Dr. Katrina Anne Valera said that the earlier we address them, the better for our 3+ toddler’s health and nutrition. Some practical tips she shared include encouraging independent feeding to allow the child to explore and feel in control of what he or she is eating. Another way is to encourage the child to “eat your colors” or eat the food of different colors every day. This way, you can also introduce different nutrient-rich vegetables and fruits. 

How to Improve Food and Beverage Intake of your 3+ Toddler 

3+ Toddlers are drawn to sugary treats that are tasty but not all too nutritious. According to Nutritionist-Dietitian, Ms. Ditas Sagarbarria, parents must avoid giving high calorie milk to their 3+ toddler because it may promote excessive caloric intake or excessive energy intake. Online Business Metrics And Marketing Tactics

Business operational metrics are a quantifiable measure to evaluate success and gather insights into a company’s sustainability. Nowadays, most businesses acquire new customers and sales thru ad views generated by high-quality organic leads.

Online advertising uses operational metrics which include CAC or customer acquisition cost. It is a company’s gauge on how much they spend in acquiring each customer. It is the cost of winning a customer to purchase a product or service. This can be measure thru this formula:

CAC = cost of sales and marketing / number of New Customers Acquired

CAC is often related to LTV – (Customer’s) Life Time Value. It is the predicted revenue that a customer can generate over the course of their relationship with the company.

To calculate LTV, the following variables is needed to plug into the formula:

Average purchase value: Calculate this number by dividing your company’s total revenue in a time period (usually one year) by the number of purchases over the course of that same time period.

Average purchase frequency: Calculate this number by dividing the number of purchases over the course of the time period by the number of unique customers who made purchases during that time period.

Customer value: Calculate this number by multiplying the average purchase value by the average purchase frequency.

Average customer lifespan: Calculate this number by averaging out the number of years a customer continues purchasing from your company.

LTV = customer value X average customer lifespan.

This will provide the estimated revenue expected from a customer over the course of the business relationship. The LTV:CAC ratio should be 3:1. This means that the customer value of customers should be three times the cost of acquiring them. If the ratio turns out to be 1:1 it means ad spending equals as much money on gaining customers as they’re spending on your products.

If it’s higher than 3:1, like 5:1 for example, this shows that you are not spending enough on sales and marketing and could be missing out on opportunities to achieve new leads.  

To understand what you want to achieve with your ad campaigns, you also need to check the CPA or Cost Per Acquisition. It is the cost per sale or cost per conversion that indicates how much sales was created by your online ad campaign. It allows you to track and optimize a variety of goals.

CPA (cost per action)= Total “actions” taken / total cost

With this, you’re able to see if the amount you spent on ads is profitable or not. You can clearly see if ad campaigns are well invested which allows you to adjust the cost accordingly.

Who collects the sales tax?
In states where you have sales tax nexus, you likely only need to worry about collecting sales tax on your own site (Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix, etc.). If you sell on a third-party marketplace (Amazon, Etsy, Ebay, etc.), those sites are required to collect and remit sales tax for their sellers in all but three states as of 2021. Those states are KS, MO, and FL. So, you’ll still need to collect and remit sales tax for sales into those three states on marketplaces.

To simplify, ou need to collect sales tax for sales in states where (1) you have sales tax nexus, (2) your product is taxable, and (3) your sales are on your site or a third-party marketplace site in KS, MO, or FL. Then you can setup sales tax collection on all your necessary sales channels and products.

3. What to do with the Collected Sales Tax?

Make sure those entries for sales tax liabilities are properly entered on the balance sheet. To record received sales tax from customers, debit your Cash account, and credit your Sales Revenue and Sales Tax Payable accounts. When you remit the sales tax to the government, you can reverse your initial journal entry. To do this, debit your Sales Tax Payable account and credit your Cash account.

Each state has different deadlines for filing and remitting your sales tax. Generally, the more you collect, the more frequently you’ll need to file and remit sales tax. The sales tax filing will include the total sales in that state, how much of those sales were taxable, and the total sales tax amount to pay.
